One rarely gets an entire week to spend some "quality time" with "one of America's exceptional naturalists and one of its finest natural history writers", Robert Michael Pyle. Even rarer is an opportunity to gain insights on his forthcoming first novel (set near Estes Park, no less.) That's the treat in store for everyone at this year's Summit. Read the complete article.

Please Donate to the new Family Nature Summit/Earth Force Scholarship Program
Family Nature Summits is partnering with Earth Force, a national 501(c)(3) charitable organization, to bring 5 families from underserved and underprivileged communities in the Denver area to the 2012 Family Nature Summit. This is part of our expanded outreach and diversity initiative that was spurred by feedback from our members.
We have already raised $2,500 in outreach funds and are seeking another $10,000 to cover registration and expenses. Family Nature Summits president Chris Blank has just issued a personal $5,000.00 challenge grant. He has offered to match every donation made to FNS for this program by April 30, 2012, up to a total of $5,000.00, dollar for dollar. Please donate today!
Earth Force and the families who have been selected for this program are also busy raising funds to cover their costs. If we are able to fully fund this program, five families with 10 adults and 16 children will be joining us for the week.
Steve Houser, Director of the Junior Naturalist (ages 5-12) program, commented: "This is great! One of the missions of the Jr. Naturalist Program is to help children develop a connection with the natural world and become good stewards of the earth. Our highly qualified staff will be offering exciting, fun, and fascinating activities to foster those goals. This will be a great Summit!"
To learn more about Earth Force and the work that they do, click here, or go to http://www.earthforce.org/.
Earth Force is "passionate about young people finding their voice while assuming leadership roles in solving local environmental problems." Their mission statement: "Earth Force engages young people as active citizens who improve the environment and their communities now and in the future."
In this community, school districts and institutions of higher education work together to ensure that educators are prepared to facilitate authentic youth-led projects. Young people from all achievement levels and walks of life have the opportunity to lead local efforts to effect change. In this community, a national call to service goes beyond asking young people to volunteer -- we expect them to be co-engineers in addressing the challenges we face. The end result is that these communities are healthier because of the involvement of youth.
We believe Earth Force's goals are a great fit with those of Family Nature Summits, so please help us with our goal of bringing these 5 local Denver area families to the 2012 Summit under this outreach/diversity scholarship program.
